The Gravenstein apple comes from Denmark and has a tart flavor. It is perfect for cooking and making apple cider. However, it doesn’t keep well, so when you have them, enjoy them fresh.
If good apples are used, the lack of spices in this recipe will not be noticed.
The Apple Orchard, Susan Wiggs
Sautee the apples in 1 Tbsp butter until soft. Set aside.
Beat the egg, gradually adding the sugar and vanilla. Then add flour, baking powder and salt to make a smooth batter. Fold in apples and nuts.
Pour into a buttered and floured square, glass pan. Bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Cut into squares and top with Caramel Apple Topping, ice cream or both.
