- Grind the almonds to a fine powder in a food processor, blender or coffee grinder and set aside.
- Grate the soap, or chop into tiny pieces using a very sharp knife.
- In a heavy saucepan bring the water to a boil; then reduce heat to a simmer; add the bits of soap and stir gently until you have a nice smooth soap
- mixture. Remove the pan from the heat and add the ground almonds, almond oil, and vanilla fragrance oil, and the almond fragrance oil if you chose to use it. Stir until well blended. Spoon the liquid soap mixture into a mold and let set for at least 24 hours before using.
Tips
You may wonder why this soap starts off with a bar of Ivory. I like making custom soaps with Ivory soap because it’s pure AND then you don’t have to go through the whole tedious soap-making process. Making soap the old-fashioned way is fun, but it’s also a little dangerous since you have to use poisonous ingredients such as lye. This is a fun way for beginning soapmakers to enjoy making their own soap, without having to use such ingredients. And because the ingredients are safer, this is a fun craft idea to do with your kids!
